Everyone experiences everyday stress. A common misconception is that stress and anxiety are the same thing, which is not the truth. According to the DSM-5, anxiety disorder is characterized as “excessive worry (apprehensive expectation), occurring more days than not for at least 6 months, about a number of events or activities (such as work or school performance)”. However, stress is the body’s natural response to perceived danger. Although long-term and continuous stress can be debilitating, some everyday worries can be relieved by some at home remedies. Here are my suggestions for stopping the stress.
Go on a hike! Exercise is a great way to release endorphins, which are chemicals released by the brain to relieve stress.
Journal! I’m personally not great at talking out my feelings, so journaling is a great way to destress and look at the whole side of a situation.
Get up and watch the sunrise! You may be a bit tired, but the scenery is worth the loss of sleep. It’s a great way to appreciate nature.
Visit an old friend! Catching up with some old buddies is a great way to make new, positive memories.
Explore! Marian may be small, but there are a lot of special nooks and crannies that you need to see. If you go to a different university, I’m sure there are also hidden gems to discover.
Go to the Indianapolis Museum of Art! Admission is free for Marian, IUPUI, and Butler students!
Go out to eat with a friend! Getting away and eating delicious food always makes me feel better.
